The DSL market in the United States “is just beginning to take off,” said Sean Badding, analyst at The Carmel Group. “DSL subscribers will reach 1.6 million by the end of this year. That will grow to about 27 million by 2008. That’s huge.” Centillium would do well to set up some strategic alliances in its quest for U.S. business, according to The Carmel Group’s Badding. The company already has customers/partners in Copper Mountain, Sumitomo Electric, Advanced Fibre Communications, Interspeed, and others. Badding called G.Lite “a shortened version of the whole DSL tech” and a quicker route for companies to go into the consumer market. “It’s more like an interim step,” he said.
